Paranormal, Contemporary, Kink, and Romantic Suspense
I live in a community of avid readers. You would think this wonderful news for a romance author but my community does not embrace romance novels. If you could see the eye rolls when I say I write romance novels, you’d be amazed. I had a librarian tell me her boss would look down on library personnel for reading romance. What?
Our local library was hosting author appreciation days recently and my two emails to participate went unanswered. The movie theater in town has great advertising rates and they’ve also refused to respond to my emails. Three to be exact and no reply whatsoever.
The thing is… we’re all here because of romance. Gone are the days (in the US) when women are mere prizes and sold into marriage. That crazy thing that starts the baby making process is called romance. We meet the person of our dreams, fall in love, start a life together, and continue the romantic story. Romance is life.
So why the snub and especially from a library? I don’t have an answer but if people wonder why a library isn’t used as much as it should be, look for the number one selling book genre in America to be absent the shelves.
When my husband witnesses the eye roll behavior he always says, “I’m glad I’m not married to her.” This makes me smile. I’m a romantic and proud of it. Romance isn’t just one day a year. It’s part of our life every day. If you love someone it’s part of yours. I don’t expect everyone to read romance books or to read them all the time. But to disrespect romance is to pretend the birds and bees is for only birds and bees. We know that isn’t so.
I will continue writing what I love and continue loving who I love. I’ll watch, read, and dream romance because I’m proud that I have a romantic heart and I’m unashamed to show it or speak of it. Call it what you want… Smut, sex, whatever. It’s two hearts beating as one that makes the world go round.
Have a delightfully wicked Valentine’s Day and may LOVE be with you always!

One woman. Three promises—one honored, one broken, one pledged.
She’s struggling with shocking truths while trying to move on; he’s caught in the crossfire of a battle he doesn’t know how to fight.
Another round of turmoil isn’t on her agenda, but when Ryleigh Collins discovers a blood-stained journal among her deceased mother’s belongings, her curiosity leads her to a puzzling Mark Twain look-alike who shatters her family history—and her sense of belonging.
Bearing a treasure chest of secrets and a deeply scarred heart, Ryleigh returns home to her ex-husband’s appeal to take him back. Overwhelmed, she seeks refuge in the quiet majesty of the Rocky Mountains. But as the snow deepens, so do her feelings for Logan Cavanaugh, the distinctly reserved resort owner.
Two lost souls collide in a paralyzing snowstorm, but when the skies clear, Logan surrenders to a deepening guilt he can’t fight. Ryleigh’s sense of abandonment is further compromised with his sudden departure, though she refuses to believe they’ve left their shared memories frozen in the mountains of Colorado.
Three men love her. Sometimes there’s only room in a heart for one; sometimes, there’s a special place where everyone belongs.

These past few years have been difficult when it came to writing non-fiction police books and blog posts. I spent six of my eight years with the Small Town Police Department as lead detective in Sex Crime and Homicide cases. I can easily look back on those first two years in law enforcement and smile.
After the first two, the reasons to smile faded and many of my cases were heartbreaking and tragic. In the bigger picture, I had a fear that if victims knew I wrote non-fiction police stories about my adventures as an officer, they would stop trusting me.
A victim in one of my cases asked me about my writing one day. I managed to keep my author identity fairly quiet but somehow she heard. I gave her the Bad Luck Blog information so she could visit my blog and see the people and stories I wrote about.
Her wonderful response emphasized the need to keep my detective cases private.
Chief Scott Silverii approached me months ago and asked me to join the 10-Code project—ten fictions stories, written by cops, honoring fallen officers. All proceeds will go to the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial Fund. I was extremely honored to take part in Scott’s incredible endeavor.
Today, 10-Code is available at major online retailers. Below you will find the buy links. If you’ve pre-ordered, I hope you are sinking your teeth into this awesome book. If you didn’t pre-order you need to download your copy now. Please, it’s only $2.99 and ALL proceeds go straight to NLEOMF!
My story, The Forever Team, is dedicated to my police academy friend Philip Rodriguez. I miss him and his smile so much. Writing each word brought him up front and center in my thoughts. I try not to be sad but his loss had a profound effect on so many. Once a year, I visit the Officer Down Memorial Page and read the newest comments on Philip’s page. I’ve left several of my own but this time I couldn’t. Philip’s dad had the top post and it needed to stay there.
Here is the poem to Philip from his father.
I only have a picture now,
A frozen piece of time,
To remind me of how it was,
When you were here, and mine.
I see your smiling eyes,
Each morning when I wake,
I talk to you, and place a kiss,
Upon your lovely face.
How much I miss you being here,
I really can not say,
The ache is deep inside my heart,
And never goes away.
I hear it mentioned often,
That time will heal the pain,
But if I’m being honest,
I hope it will remain.
I need to feel you constantly,
To get me through the day,
I loved you so very much,
Why did you go away?
The angels came and took you,
That really wasn’t fair,
They took my one and only Son,
My future life. My heir.
If only they had asked me,
If I would take your place,
I would have done so willingly,
Leaving you this world to grace.
You should have had so many years,
To watch your life unfold,
And in the mist of this,
Watch me, your Mum grow old!
I hope you’re watching from above,
At the daily tasks I do,
And let there be no doubt at all,
I really do love you.

We have recently moved to a new city and settled in quite nicely. I don’t remember buying and selling a home being quite so stressful but we survived. I love my new office and it’s been great as I get back into the writing groove.
I wish all of you the Merriest Christmas and Happiest Holidays ever. I have lots of new projects planned for the New Year. You’ll hear more about them here and in my newsletter.
Kisses and hugs,
Holly/D’Elen with a little Suzie thrown in!
Olivia doesn’t have time for problems with a stalker who disapproves of her less than modest life choices. She enjoys the occasional tennis pro in bed, short skirts, and the chance to allow her wild side out.
Her dreams take a turn when her stalker, known only as Ty, runs over her with a van and puts her in the hospital. Ty will stop at nothing to possess what he covets.
Enter bodyguard Brack Jacobs—hair too long, attitude too uptight, and body too damn hot.
Brack has a job to do and sleeping with a target is not in the target’s best interest. Doesn’t matter that Olivia is sexy as hell and bent on adding a notch to her bedpost with Brack’s name on it.
Life is not as straightforward as it seems and deadly consequences await them both.
Can Olivia change Brack’s mind and turn a spark of desire into a raging inferno? Will Brack survive the flames or would slam, bam, thank you ma’am be his safest bet?
– A Completion Sports Book. Expect erotic sex, an alpha male, and more balls than a girl knows what to do with.
This is something most authors only dream about and I’ve been dreaming about it for years. Someone please pinch me because I don’t plan on waking up.
“Play” was special to me from conception. It’s the first time I used my husband for research. I live with the Wikipedia of football. From playing to coaching to gluing himself in front of the TV, the man has football on the brain. I am the true definition of a football widow which made him invaluable in writing Play.
We sat for countless hours in our hot tub discussing football… what if a player intentionally made a late tackle on the quarterback and another player retaliated? Would someone be thrown out of the game? Would there be an imposed monetary penalty? What would happen in this situation or that one. My DH was so helpful. I would love to say he didn’t laugh at me a time or two but that would be lying. He moaned (and not in the way you think) at a few of the situations I described.
So what changes when you make the USA Today Bestselling List? Actually, I have no idea. I do know I get to place a nice tag line on all my books:

I also get to dream bigger. New York Times here I come!
P.S. You will notice the new tag line on my blog header very soon too!
