In 2006, Warren Jeffs, the leader of the FLDS cult, was prosecuted on two counts of being an accomplice to rape. He was convicted in September 2007, but the Utah Supreme Court later overturned the verdict due to flawed jury instruction in 2011, Jeffs was tried in Texas, where he was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a minors and sentenced to life plus 20 years.
Following years of corruption within local law enforcement, a federal judge placed the town of Hildale, Utah, under oversight to dismantle the cult's long-standing control. These novels tell the fictionalized story of the detective who led the charge to expose that corruption. Detective Eve Bennet, herself a survivor of the cult, has returned to ensure that justice finally has its day in court.
